At The Sawmill

I can’t think of a better way to enjoy a Saturday afternoon than taking a trip up Route 28 to the sawmill. We got to check out our cherry lumber for a new project getting cut to spec at Jones Sawmill before it hits the kiln. Being able to know where your materials come from and see it transform from log to lumber to furniture is an awesome experience.

Austerity and Self-Sustainability

While we missed posting this before the opening…you’ve still got time to check out ’Austerity and Self-Sustainability’ at Fe Gallery in Lawrenceville. The exhibit features works by John Eastman and Donovan Widmer and runs through April 13th. We got the chance to work alongside John in the fabrication and assembly of his furniture pieces. Featured are several large pieces made from reclaimed lumber and fabricated metal bases…including a rolling kitchen island table, rolling library table, saw horse dining table, plank bed and rolling magazine cart. We had a great time working with John and can’t wait for the next chance to work together. I just wish I had some more photos of the finished pieces.
Check out more of John Eastman’s work at the Eastman Tribe Facebook page. There’s definitely some cool stuff going on.
Simple Sugars in the Shark Tank

Over the past year we’ve been lucky enough to have worked with an awesome local company called Simple Sugars. Those of you who have visited our studio when we’ve been working on their retail store displays have wondered what all the pink was about…now you can get the story behind the company. Simple Sugar’s CEO Lani Lazarri will be on ABC’s Shark Tank tonight! Tune in and cheer her on! We also couldn’t help but get excited when we spied some of our work in the tv promo!
The Silverware Chest

We couldn’t help but fall in love with our latest custom commission furniture piece…a walnut & curly maple silverware chest. Sourced from Western PA walnut and Eastern PA curly maple, the chest was made to house our client’s collection of family heirloom silverware. Oil rubbed brass knobs, antiqued furniture casters and locking drawer hardware were chosen to complement the richness of the lumber. We even added a secret interior compartment for documents or other valuables. The details of the inlay began to grow as we laid out the designs and began working with the curly maple. We started with a few lines and it kept growing organically into the final layout. We’re hoping this piece gets handed down for generations to come. Truly one of favorite pieces to work on.
Display Pedestals

On the smaller scale of items we get called upon to build frequently are wood pedestals. Most often made for artists to display their work in galleries…great for glass, wood or metal sculpture or vessels…we can build them in pretty much any size and in any wood to suit the piece. They’re also great for tabletop retail displays. The ones featured above were made from local PA maple.
